Course Description

This training, adapted to address Peer's particular needs, is intended to support staff in developing and maintaining appropriate boundaries in service provision, and explore and clarify ethical dilemmas. Participants will explore power and privilege and how these differentials affect our work. Participants will practice assessing decisions about boundaries and dual relationships. 

The Code of Ethical Conduct will be presented and participants will participate in interactive activities to support their learning experience and the implications of putting them into practice. This three-hour online experience will allow for question and answer, group discussion, activities and an evaluation. 

Learning Objectives Include

  • Recognize the 7 types of power

  • Unpack the uses and misuses of power and privilege in Peer Support

  • Define “dual relationships” and identify risks associated with dual relationships in Peer Support

  • Unpack the unique challenges related to boundaries in Peer Support.

  • Implement strategies for maintaining appropriate boundaries in Peer Support

Learning and Development Specialist

Carrie Tann-Cooper, B.F.A., MS

Carrie Tann-Cooper, (she/her/hers) is a Certified Peer Specialist, certified WRAP II facilitator and a Learning and Development Specialist. Carrie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rosemont College in 2017 and her Master of Science degree from Full Sail University in 2019. Prior to joining the Institute, she spent eight years as an early childhood educator as well as an elementary teacher in Pennsylvania and Delaware. In 2021, Carrie partnered with the Lions Club International where she created and facilitated a free mentorship program for underserved young-adults in Delaware that focused on college prep, mental and physical health and life skills pertinent to entering into adulthood. Throughout her career as an educator, Carrie has gained extensive experience with writing and implementing curricula, as well as experience with teaching and working with children and young adults who have autism, learning disabilities, and behavioral challenges. Carrie has a passion for facilitating trainings for all age groups and uses storytelling and real-life experiences to enhance the materials for the classes she teaches.

Learning and Development Specialist

Mon Ocampo

Mon Ocampo (They/Them/Theirs/Elle) is a Learning and Development Specialist for the Institute@MHP. They were born in Honduras and migrated to the US when they were 11 years old. Based on their lived experiences, Mon has dedicated themselves to serving the mental health needs of the Latine community and the improvement of service-providing systems. Prior to joining the Institute, Mon worked as a peer mentor serving the young migrant Latine community providing resources and making connections within the community. Mon hopes to bring awareness to the systemic gaps that exist in mental health systems by uplifting the voice of those working within the recovery community.
